Emergency Lighting

Emergency Lighting Installations & Compliance Testing

Emergency lighting is essential for safe evacuation during fire or power failure. Mascott installs and maintains systems to BS5266 standards, ensuring your building stays compliant with regular testing, certification, and expert guidance tailored to your Fire Risk Assessment.

In order to evacuate the building in the event of a fire or power failure your Emergency Lighting, a battery-backed lighting device,  is there to automatically switch on illuminate your route and safe escape from the building. Mascott Fire & Electrical Ltd can advise on your emergency lighting requirements and provide installation or/or Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) as required to BS5266.

Most emergency escape lighting must be tested to ensure they remain on for at least three hours in buildings that occupants cannot evacuate immediately. The minimum illumination duration can fall to one hour in certain buildings, this however would be denoted within the buildings Fire Risk Assessment Report.

If you are responsible for commercial premises which have emergency lighting installed, then you will need to make sure that either you, a designated ‘competent person’, or a fire safety company undertake the regular emergency lighting tests as required by law.

A certificate for your emergency lighting is a requirement under BS EN 50172:2004, 6.2.
